Mail & Packages

mailboxes

Whether you’re doing online shopping or wanting Mom to mail you some homemade cookies, check out the details below on how to receive mail on campus.

Determine Your Carrier

Mail delivered by the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) and through package carriers such as FedEx and UPS are delivered to students in different ways. First, determine how timely your package or letter is and choose the best carrier for your needs. For example, an overnight delivery through the USPS will reach the University Mail Center overnight - but it will not necessarily make it to your student overnight.

Mail Basics

  • Each room on campus is assigned a mailbox located in the residence hall or apartment. Address information can be found in MyPack Portal.
  • Mail and parcels sent through the USPS are delivered to University Mail Services and sorted before they are delivered to students. This means if you mail something overnight through USPS it will be delivered to Mail Services first, not directly to your student.
  • Residents receive mail Monday through Friday (except during holidays and student breaks).
  • Packages delivered through UPS, FedEx or other package carriers are delivered DIRECTLY to the student's residence hall 24-hour service desk, bypassing University Mail Services. The student will then receive an email that their package may be picked up at the desk.
  • Please have packages addressed to the name you use for your NC State email. It will help CA desk staff alert you of a package.

Sending Mail and Packages Through the U.S. Postal Service

  • Mail and parcels sent through the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) to NC State residence halls are delivered daily Monday through Friday (except holidays and student breaks).
  • The USPS delivers mail to the NC State Campus Mail Center, where it is sorted and then distributed throughout campus. The USPS delivers mail directly to Wolf Village, Wolf Ridge, E.S. King Village and Western Manor Apartments. USPS mail boxes are located near Poe Hall and Harrelson Hall. Some residence halls/apartments allow outgoing mail to be dropped at the 24-hour service desk and other halls ask residents to place outgoing mail in the U.S. mail slot located near the residence hall/apartment mailboxes. Check with your RA to determine how outgoing mail is handled. Stamps are available for sale in some 24-hour desk lobbies and at the bookstore.

Sending Mail and Packages Through a Delivery Service (FedEx, UPS, etc.)

  • Packages sent through a delivery service such as FedEx or UPS will be delivered directly to the student’s residence hall/apartment 24-hour service desk and bypass the Campus Mail Center.
