Saturday afternoon tailgates, cooler temperatures and falling leaves are all signs that the season is changing. At University Housing, the changing season means it’s time to start thinking about our annual Housing Selection process. In short, this process ensures your student will have a room in one of our residence halls or apartments for the next academic year, beginning fall 2014.
Between February 11-28, current housing residents who want to live on campus for the 2014-2015 academic year must reapply for housing. Residents may select available rooms and request a roommate(s). Once the process begins, students can access housing options for next year through the University Housing Self Service page on MyPack Portal. Depending on where a student wants to live will determine their specific sign-up date within the Housing Selection period. Stay tuned to the University Housing website to get your specific sign-up date.
So, why are we telling you about this process now? The holidays are just around the corner, and they are a great time for parents and students to discuss living plans for the upcoming year. We encourage parents to talk to your sons and daughters about their plans to avoid a last-minute decision once the application process begins. Parents should consider the benefits of living on campus, such as higher GPAs and graduation rates, and students should consider the level of engagement and resources that on-campus housing provides. For students looking into the apartment experience, Wolf Ridge, Wolf Village, E.S. King Village and Western Manor are often a happy medium for parents and students and provide a variety of options, styles and layouts.
We encourage you to talk with your student during the holidays about their intentions for next year. The annual Housing Selection process is easy to complete, but procrastinating may result in your student not having a place to live on campus next fall! Start the conversation and join the more than 4,000 students who sign-up each year.
